I added support for alt text in my hack to autopost to Mastodon. MarsEdit doesn’t support saving alt texts into the corresponding WordPress field due to some API limitation, so I had to get them from the img tags directly. The whole effort involves several things I am not super familiar with. In addition to PHP and WordPress, I had to relearn XPath to query the markup for img alt attributes and then modify the raw form data to include them as descriptions. Not fun, but worth it.
Two Pasta images for testing.
One more for the road.
Now she’s animated.
If everything works, you should see the name of my dog in the image’s description.
Two Hours, Two Blogs, Two Bugs
I took a couple of hours during time off of from my day job to fix two issues on my blogs that have been bugging me for months now. On https://jackwellborn.com/, I fixed crossposting to Mastodon. On https://wormsandviruses.com/, I figured out how to properly render the Markdown text used in previews on Mastodon and Discord.
Is it possible that fixing media posting to Mastodon from my blog is as simple as changing “v1” to “v2” and reauthenticating?

Having played around with the Slack API to sync Slack status with Apple’s focus modes, it’s nuts to me that Slack doesn’t integrate with the feature. Perhaps being an Electron app means they can’t, but the two features really are a match made in heaven.
Bluesky’s Selection Bias
Likening the success of Bluesky to that of a charter school isn’t to suggest that I think Bluesky will or should fail. I can’t wait to try it. I just wonder how much of Bluesky’s “fun” is due to selection bias wherein the only people on it are those who were influential enough to be invited or savvy enough to ask for an invite.
