When I was younger, I heard some actor talking about sending the elevator back down. What they meant was making sure there was opportunity for newcomers. My biggest concern today is that there seems to be fewer and fewer elevators getting sent back down. Education and housing prices have outstripped wage growth. We’ve embraced cheaper labor under autocratic regimes for lower cost goods. My fear is if AI is able to replace knowledge working jobs, that will be yet another elevator kept up top.
