My wife and I really enjoy the show Columbo. In Columbo, the culprit is almost always rich. Watching this show from the 70s reinforces a reckon I have had for years. Time was upper class folks could be distinguished from everyone else because they had visibly nicer stuff.
When credit became freely available in the 80s, it became much more difficult to distinguish between those who are comfortable from those who look comfortable, but are riddled with debt. I call it the Gatsby-fication of American Society.
