At IndieWebCamp, someone asked me not to use the word “just” when talking shop. They were right. Deliberate or not, “just” diminishes the ask and can bully those doing the work by suggesting any complexity must be the result of incompetence. I will be more mindful in the future.

  1. @jackwellborn This was pointed out to me in a similar context, and once I noticed, I found that removing “just” was the right thing to do in lots of cases. I was especially guilty with designers: “I just need a simple logo/illustration/header.”
